ChiCeLaCu! is pleased to offer its Spanish Online Program for the 2021-2022 academic year. Intended for students from Kindergarten to 6th grade, the program includes 1 parent-teacher conference and scheduled email updates every 3 weeks with class information and support material to be printed at home. For returning students, classes will continue to build on learnings from the previous sessions. Registration and materials fee covers materials to be picked up at ChiCeLaCu Fairfax office but does not include instructional materials to be purchased directly online. Children will explore the wonderful world of Spanish through storytelling, music, dance, song, games, puppetry, arts & crafts, and lots of movement! An excellent introduction to Spanish this fall, the little one will benefit from ChiCelaCu!’s dynamic and interactive programs in operation since 2007. Students will learn their numbers, colors, shapes, basic greetings along with vocabulary based on the specific theme of the week. Themes include emotions, needs and wants, family, nature, sports, food, animals, and more. In this introductory course, students will learn through interactive and dynamic online activities the fundamentals of the language including basic greetings, colors, letters, days of the week, months, numbers, and everyday vocabulary and phrases to express immediate needs and wants. Students will learn while enjoying music, games, storytelling, arts & crafts, and more. This course is ideal for students who have, at most, 1 year of exposure to the language. Using original ChiCelaCu instructional materials, the course will focus on basic phonics and correct pronunciation. Students in this class are expected to have at least 2-3 years of formal Spanish instruction. Using ChiCeLaCu’s online materials, the focus will be on building vocabulary, phonics, and developing reading and writing skills. The first part of the course will focus on verb conjugation. Students will begin forming basic sentences on various topics including the human body, emotions, the home, family, community, etc. Students will learn while enjoying many fun and interactive activities. The second part of the course will focus on pronouns, prepositions, and possessives. Students will be introduced to AR, ER, and IR (irregular) verbs through various activities and practice conjugation in the first person, using storytelling, videos, music, songs, and plenty of games. Using ChiCelaCu instructional material, students will expand and refine their reading and writing competencies. To participate in this class, students must have at least 4-5 years of Spanish instruction. The focus of this course is to build vocabulary and confidence in the language. Students will learn through a variety of topics and activities such as scripted dialogues, game-based learning in situational contexts, and other interactive activities. Students will apply grammatical principles to form sentences in the present and past tense using regular AR, ER, IR verbs. In addition, they will learn and apply the irregular verbs to be, to like, to have, to go. To make this a more dynamic and interesting experience, cultural aspects from various countries as well as drawing, music, theater, and arts and crafts elements will be integrated into the course. Ideal for students with at least 5-6 years of formal language instruction, the course covers grammar, vocabulary, oral expression, listening and reading comprehension. The course builds on previous knowledge and new information and topics are presented in progressive complexity, expanding on vocabulary and grammar concepts. Students will use original ChiCeLaCu! material among other fun learning resources. Culture, justice, environment, family, and school are among the main topics covered during class. Students will begin using more complex sentences applying regular and irregular verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, and prepositions, past, present and future tense. Classes are designed to be very interactive to ensure an enjoyable and engaging virtual experience this fall. Co-teachers from different countries will be invited to teach fun topics such as drawing, poetry, coding, and mathematics, exposing students to various accents and more complex vocabulary that will improve listening skills and motivate dialogue.
